May God have mercy on our souls.

What would you say if I gave you 11 reasons why the elections in 2010 will be the most important in the history of the United States ?

1. What if I had told you in October 2008, before the last presidential election, that before Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office, the federal government would be in control of both the mortgage and the banking industries? That 19 of America ‘s largest banks would be forced to undergo stress tests by the federal government which would determine if they were insufficiently capitalized, so they must be supervised by the government?

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America .”

 2. What if I had told you that within Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office the federal government would be the largest shareholder in the US Big-Three automakers: GM, and Chrysler? That the government would kick out the CEO’s of these companies and appoint hand-picked executives with zero experience in the auto industry and that executive compensation would be determined, not by a Board of Directors, but by the government?

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

3. What if I had told you that Barack Obama would appoint 21 Czars, without congressional approval, accountable only to him, not to the voters, who would have control over a wide range of US policy decisions. That there would be a Stimulus Accountability Czar, an Urban Czar, a Compensation Czar, an Iran Czar, an Auto Industry Czar, a Cyber Security Czar, an Energy Czar, a Bank Bailout Czar, and more than a dozen other government bureaucrats with unchecked regulatory powers over US domestic and foreign policy.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

4. What if I had told you that the federal deficit would be $915 billion in the first six months of the Obama presidency – with a projected annual deficit of $1.75 trillion – triple the $454.8 billion in 2008, for which the previous administration was highly criticized by Obama and his fellow Democrats. That congress would pass Obama’s $3.53 trillion federal budget for fiscal 2010… That the projected deficit over the next ten years would be greater than $10 trillion.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

 5. What if I had told you that the Obama Justice Department would order FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high-value detainees captured on the battlefield and held at US military detention facilities in Afghanistan . That Obama would order the closing of the Guantanamo detention facility with no plan for the disposition of the 200-plus individuals held there. That several of the suspected terrorists at Guantanamo would be sent to live in freedom in Bermuda at the expense of the US government. That our returning US veterans would be labeled terrorists and put on a watch list.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

6. What if I had told you that the federal government would seek powers to seize key companies whose failures could jeopardize the financial system. That a new regulatory agency would be proposed by Obama to control loans, credit cards, mortgage-backed securities, and other financial products offered to the public.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!”

7. What if I had told you that Obama would travel to the Middle East, bow before the Saudi king, and repeatedly apologize for America ‘s past actions. That he would travel to Latin America where he would warmly greet Venezuela ‘s strongman Hugo Chavez and sit passively in the audience while Nicaraguan Marxist thug Daniel Ortega charged America with terrorist aggression in Central America . Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!” 8. Okay, now what if I were to tell you that Obama wants to dismantle conservative talk radio through the imposition of a new “Fairness Doctrine.” That he wants to curtail the First Amendment rights of those who may disagree with his policies via internet blogs, cable news networks, or advocacy ads. That most major network television and most newspapers will only sing his phrases like state-run media in communist countries?

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!!”

9. What if I were to tell you that the Obama Justice Department is doing everything it can to limit your Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. That the federal government wants to reinstate the so-called assault weapons ban which would prohibit the sale of any type of firearm that doesn’t require the shooter to pull the trigger every time a round is fired. That Obama’s Attorney General wants to eliminate the sale of virtually all handguns and ammunition, which most citizens choose for self-defense.

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!!”

10. What if I were to tell you that the Obama plan is to eliminate states rights guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment and give the federal government sweeping new powers over policies currently under the province of local and state governments and voted on by the people. That Obama plans to control the schools, energy production, the environment, health care, and the wealth of every US citizen.

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

11. What if I were to tell you that the president, the courts, and the federal government have ignored the US Constitution and have seized powers which the founders of our country fought to restrict. That our last presidential election may have been our last truly free election for some time to come.

I know, I know what you will say. “That will never happen in America !”

May God have mercy on our souls.

Where are the keys?

It was the craziest week-end. Let me explain. I had a closing on a house. The sellers were going to stay in the home an extra day to get moved into their new home. They had until midnight Sat. to get moved out. They were pretty much completed by lunch time because I stopped by to check on the progress. The other agent said he would call and let me know the time. About 9 p.m. I called to see if they were out. He replied, they were out, but we could not have keys until midnight. WHAT! I called Sylvia and off we went to search for keys. We searched all the usual hiding places, under rocks, mats, electrical boxes, the obvious lock box…nothing. We waited…..and waited for him to call. It was as if we were on a police stakeout; sitting in the car with the lights out, hiding just out of sight. Waiting for the “perp” to show. One slight difference, we had Starbucks instead of Dunkin Donut’s.

While on the stakeout, I told Sylvia about my experience with God. The night I jumped on the bed and all. She replied with a weird comment. She said she doesn’t have to do anything to be a Christian because she was born a Catholic. What does that mean? What’s the difference? I thought the Bible says, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord. I didn’t know some got in just by being born.

Midnight rolls around and the agent did call and explain the keys were hidden in the front yard…..someplace. It was up to me to figure out where…click. What a jerk! So here we were in the middle of the night with flash lights in the front yard of a vacant home, searching for keys. We were crawling around on hands and knees looking for recently overturned soil. Just like on Law & Order. I should save this story for the happy hour crowd….you remember the game…CCC (Crazy client competition). We did find the keys after several hours of searching. They were tossed in the shrubs along the road.

Important to Remember: Never to drink coffee on a stakeout.

P.S. I would like to take the time to apologize to a friend Rosie and the Butcher who I might have offended. I do not consider you a religious person, nor was it my intent to upset you. If you are upset please accept my apology.

Ten Steps to pure joy. Continued.

Step Two.  Pray. If you are a Christian and are missing the joy of the Lord in your life go to God who is the source of joy. “l go to the altar of God, to God — the source of all my joy” (Ps 43:4 NLT).  Pray as David prayed in the Psalms “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul” (Ps 86:3-4 NIV).  Ask God to fill you with His joy to show you how to have joy…to teach you.  Ask him, “Lord, help me to get to know You better.  Help me to believe You are the source of my joy and that only You can fill my soul with the inexpressible joy I yearn for”.  Then believe that God will answer your prayer.  Watch as he fills your life with the joy.  David knew the joy from the Lord was far greater than that of the world.  “You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and wine” (Ps 4:7 NLT).  He turned to God for his joy.  He asked him for it in his time of trouble.  In your time of trouble turn to God.

Step Three. Celebrate the Lord.   Start with celebrating the gift of salvation.  Don’t just think about these things but celebrate them…rejoice in God.  God takes pleasure in His children and wants them to rejoice in Him. God wants us to be joyful. To sing for joy in His honor. I love Psalms 98…

Sing to the LORD a new song,

for he has done marvelous things;

his right hand and his holy arm

have worked salvation for him.

2 The LORD has made his salvation known

and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love

and his faithfulness to the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen

the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with music;

5 make music to the LORD with the harp,

with the harp and the sound of singing,

6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn —

shout for joy before the LORD, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it.

8 Let the rivers clap their hands,

let the mountains sing together for joy;

9 let them sing before the LORD,

for he comes to judge the earth.

He will judge the world in righteousness

and the peoples with equity. NIV

Pure joy comes from the celebration knowing who our Lord is and all he has done for us.  It comes from knowing that your salvation and eternal life has been won by Jesus; knowing that he is a faithful loving Lord.

He is the creator of the universe and He has good plans for us.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jer 29:11NLT).  Knowing that just makes me want to jump up and down for joy.  Think about it, God takes pleasure in us and wants us to be joyful.  “For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation. Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds” (Psalms 149:4-5 NIV). They sing for joy on their beds!  I can just picture the saints jumping up and down for joy to the Lord on their beds and God smiling at their joy.  Actually He is probably doing a belly laugh with them.

We should be joyful and celebrate our Lord and all he has done for us….but we can’t know who He is and all He has done for us until we study the bible and pray to get to know Him.  Ask and the door will open.   He is a good patient father.  Celebrate that He is your father and that you can know Him and experience His love.  He wants to share it with you.

P.S. Can’t take credit for all of this material.  Mary helped a ton.  Love ya Mary.

Running on God’s fuel. Is is cheaper?

Copy (2) of IMG_1436

Since the fall of man, humans have been searching for joy in all the pleasures the serpent provides.  In Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis(love the book), he explains that God created us to run on the fuel that He provides.  We were designed to run on Him.  God can’t give us joy apart of him.  People have tried.  They think they know more about what gives joy than the creator of the universe.  The one who created them.  Wacked isn’t it!

Satan knows humans are searching for pure joy.  He also knows only God has the ability to give us pure joy.  The kind of joy that leaves you full, not empty and wanting more.  Satan knows pure joy, from the Lord, is not found in people, money, stuff, drugs or alcohol.  The joy found in the world does not create true happiness; it is only a temporary fix.  It leaves less of you and a craving for more joy.  The joy found in the world does not last, it is temporary. The more of “it” a person has (whatever “it” is, money, drugs, alcohol…etc.) the less of them there is and they become  less of the person Gods wants them to be.  They become more like the world.  So how do I get the joy of the Lord and when do I experience it?

Step One:  Believe God created you and loves you.  Believe Jesus came to earth to die on the cross for your sins; whatever they might be.  Believe God wants to forgive you and wants you to have pure joy and that only he has the ability to give it to you.  Receive Jesus into your life.  Receive His forgiveness and the gift of His Spirit into your life.  “And all who believe in God’s Son have eternal life.” (John 3:36 NLT)  Bow your head and whisper this prayer:

“ Dear God, I am sorry for my sins.  I believe your son, Jesus, died on the cross for my sins, so I might be forgiven.  I want to live the rest of my life your way.  Please come into my life to guide and direct me.”

If you have prayed this pray for the first time, Congratulations!   I encourage you to get into a bible based church, read the bible and pray everyday, and find other Christians and spend time with them on a regular basis.  Find a Mary.

God made us with the desire to be joyful and to look to him for the joy.  You have to believe that the pure joy you are looking for comes from him. “Peter talks about Jesus, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” (1 Peter 1:8 NIV).  The pure joy people are looking for comes from Him….believing in Him.  The first step is to believe in Jesus and to surrender your life to Him.  Allow His will to be done not your will.  Trust the plans He has for you are good.  Ask Him to guide you and lead you in all decisions.

I’m going to tell Syliva about this joy.

 Additional steps to follow.

More Jesus…Less Religion

My friend, Angie, said something in her post that really made me think. She reported that people say, they are “losing their religion” , as if in a desperate plea to hang on to it. I thought religion was man made? Shouldn’t we want to get rid of it or “lose our religion” and just follow Jesus? I have seen “religious” people hurt God’s children, all done in the name of Jesus. For example, the way my friends Jenn and Mary have been treated by “religious” people. I have seen, so called religious people, wearing robes, parade around on Sunday as some sort of holy movie stars yet on Monday act no different than the worst of us. It appears to me, as only a spiritual walker, that religion pushes people away from Jesus. It’s as if church people build walls around Jesus and make it difficult for the world to see his love.

How many of them leave their sterile environment go out into the world to harvest crops for Jesus?

Religion doesn’t look anything like the love of Christ or grace. It’s almost like religious people … people….. are in love with the religion and what that symbolizes to the world rather than following Jesus. If they were following Jesus, shouldn’t we see more joy? More of the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Oh,….I think I understand. As I’m writing this to you my thoughts are becoming clearer and I’m sitting here broken hearted. I just realized they are using their position, title, and place in the religious environment to fill a void in their life. Just like I did, but the only thing that can fill that void is following Jesus. Not following man made religious businesses. It makes me sad. I know what they are going through. I feel their pain. It is so hard to learn that lesson.

I will pray for them. We should all pray for the religious people we know to have more Jesus and less religion in their lives.

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion—several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. –Mark Twain

What has God showed you this week?

What Makes Jesus Tick?

The week-end is over and I came out alive! We made it back in time to meet Amy and Richard for breakfast and then to church. He is a really nice guy. He and Jake talked about …whatever guys talk about and that allowed Amy and I to visit. They seemed to like church. Hope they come back.

Mary and I met after church. I confessed I sort of did my 7min., but not every day. She explained, its ok …at least I’ve started. She wants to begin reading and discussing the book of John. “Why John?” Her response, I need to discover who Jesus is in order to follow him. I liked the sound of that, follow Jesus. I am to try to read one chapter a day and we will discuss it next week. Mary said the book was written so people would know who Jesus was. I am excited to learn more about him. What made him tick….or is it…”makes” him tick? Have to ask Mary.

I am going to visit Jenny and Mary next week-end. Some of you know them; they are my friends from California (5/12). I don’t know if I should tell them about my experience the other day (5/17). They don’t like Christians and make their feelings perfectly clear. I really can’t blame them. Christians have shown such contempt for gays and lesbians. I don’t want to lose them as friends, but I do want to share what happened!

I think I will tell them, but let them know I am following Jesus (like Mary explained). That’s the only difference now. I am trying to learn about Jesus and become more like him, not other Christians. I know they are going to be uneasy around me…..but they’ll see. I will love them as much now as before. No…..More! I will make up for all the bad publicity.

Note to self: Ask Mary, Why do Christians make homosexuals feel second class? What’s the big deal?

The Secret of Finding Joy

What is it?  Where do you get it?  I want to give it to Amy.  Why does the joy elude so many people?    Why doesn’t every Christian’s cup run over with joy for the Lord?  Where is it?  How can I help people  find the joy of the Lord?  How can I point a hurting world, searching for joy, to the joy found in Jesus?

Mary showed me how to use my concordance so I looked up Joy.  I wanted to know if joy is different than happiness.  I found this verse…

Consider it pure joy, my brothers,

whenever you face trials of many kinds,            James 1:2

“Pure joy”?  The words just lingered in the air ……pure joy.  What is God telling me?   Lord, pure joy in trials seems ridiculous….What are you thinking?

Are you for real?   I have a lot of questions, but no answers.

Note to self:   Continue Joy study.

What do you think pure joy is?  Does God mind my questions?

How to win friends and influence people!

I brought Amy a Starbucks this morning . Nothing says I want to be your friend like a decadent Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino! We sat in the break room looking at Cosmopolitan magazines and drinking our coffee. I really like her. She has a quick sense of humor when you get past the shyness. And how can you look at Cosmo and not laugh at some of the articles.

I asked her about Richard (He informed me the other day it was not Rich). I told her I think I offended him by calling him Rich. She looked up with surprise. I said, “what?” I responded back to her “ Will the Rickster be mad? Or should I say rick-a- rin-o. How about Ricky…..Micky Ricky….Ric Star….Ricket Man”….and on and on. Her laughter fueled my creative juices. A good time was had by all.

Walking back to the office I noticed she was limping. I looked down and her ankle was swollen and bruised. She said she dropped something on it moving furniture. “What did an elephant step on it?” She laughed.

I wanted to tell her about what happened to me the other day. About my joy. But is it joy or happiness? How do I explain it? What is joy? How is that different than happiness? I know I can tell my good friend Katie. She knows everything.

Note to self: I need to try to be friends with Richard. He seems like a nice enough guy. Maybe we could go out together as couples. I know I will ask them to church on Sunday.

Are you doing your 7 minutes a day in the bible?  Mary suggested I start with the New Testament.

Are you sure you can trust the Bible?

This was the question I asked Mary as she looked at my bible. She liked it….said it was a good choice not to get the type with the commentary on the pages. Then I would get in the habit of getting my information from the commentary instead of God’s word. I rephrased my question…

“How can you be sure what we have today is what was written down originally?”

Looking back at the bible she looked at the concordance in the back. She showed me how to use it. Thinking she did not hear me…

I asked “How do we know what was written down is true?”
Mary did not seem the least bit flustered by my questions. In fact she seemed to enjoy them. She next turned to the index….”yes, yes I know how to use the index.” Getting a little impatient. She reassured me that this page will become the most worn page in the book. “It’s ok to use this page. Everyone does when they look up various books. Don’t let them fool you.

She then asked. …”Did you ever read the Iliad?” “Yes of course, in college.” I replied. Then she asked “ How about Gallic Wars, by Julius Caesar? Do you know who Herodotus was?” “Slow down. Let me think about it”, I said. “I remember learning about this. Herodotus is like the head honcho of history….The man”.

She then asked “Why do you believe his work?” “Well, Duh. He systematically collected materials and we know their work is accurate because it is cross-checked to other manuscripts to verify their accuracy!” Feeling very confident of my education. Thinking money well spent.

Mary said, “Very good”. In her calm quiet voice she reports there are 8 copies of the historical works of Herodotus and 10 copies of Julius Caesar. She also goes on to say there are 24,633 copies of the New Testament alone! “Shut up” “For real, Mary?” “For real, Sam.” More surviving early manuscripts means more cross-checks for accuracy.

“But, how accurate is the actual account?” Feeling a little smug – thinking I stumped her.

“Good question” (Folks that only means she was anticipating the question) “Would it be reasonable to assume the closer to the actual account the book was written the more accurate it would be?” Slowly I respond “Y..e..s”. I feel a set-up. Here it comes, “Did you know that the Iliad was written some 500 years and Herodotus 1300 years after the events?” Once again I respond cautiously, “N..o”. She goes on, “But some biblical books were written within 25-30 years of the actual events and show eye witness confirmation.” I am shocked. “WOW”.
“In fact”, she replies, “the bible is made up of 66 books written by at least 40 authors, from different cultures and different backgrounds. Yet the bible is consistent throughout on thousands of highly controversial issues.” “Why do you think that is Sam?” “Why? indeed, Mary” , throwing the question back at her. “Because it had just one author Sam….God” “The Holy Spirit not only directed the lives of the writers and organizers of the bible, but the very words themselves”. “The bible is the tool God uses to communicate to his children. “ She adds, “It is the number one way He speaks to me today.”

I was a little overwhelmed with the conversation. I don’t think I did her explanation justice, but you get the jist. I can read the bible and know that it is God speaking to me. I can trust what it says. It has stood up to the evidence.

She asked me to start reading just 7 minutes a day. Since I am going to try this God’s way…..I told her I would do it. I need to find out what that “way” is. Seven minutes….who can’t fit that in? I am to report back next week- what I read and what God showed me. Oh yeah, she also told me it was ok not to understand everything I was reading. Don’t get hung up on it. Just keep going.

Let me know if you try it and what God has showed you? I will keep you posted.

And remember, Run The Race for Jesus!

How to jazz up your life in 2 easy steps!

How I jazzed up my life in just 2 easy steps.  Does the fun ever quit!

Step One:

  1.  We went out and bought a new bible. The man at the store suggest several so I sat down and read verses out of them all to see which one I liked. A real ordeal. I had no idea. In my panic stricken state I asked him “what do most people buy?” Not wanting to make the wrong decision. You know, like at a restaurant, you ask the waiter what is the most popular dish. Always a good tip. So the man suggested most people get NIV (New International version) and many bible studies use the same version. Wait a minute…nobody ever said nothin bout no bible study. So anyway after the panic resided and my nerves calmed we headed off to Starbucks. Caffeine always settles my nerves!

Step Two:

  1.  Last week I was sitting around with a group of friends discussing what foods we missed most. Mine was White Castle Burgers. Right off the grill. I know they sell them in the freezer section here but that is a cheap knock-off of the real burger. There is nothing like a hot White Castle burger with grease oozing into the bun turning it almost moist! I heard they put holes in the burgers so when they cook them the grease oozes up through the hole and cooks the other side. No need to flip. What a work of process improvement! The person who thought of that idea must have been a Six Sigma Graduate! I’m digressing….sorry. Anyway, several of them mentioned they had not eaten fried bologna sandwiches in ages. “What?” I said. Fried bologna? That sounds creepy. They reminded me I eat 1/8 oz of meat sandwiched between bread and ½ lb. of lard. Oh yeah, right! But that’s called a burger not a sandwich. I guess what you do is, fry up a piece of bologna, put it on bread with ketchup and voila…..a meal. I tried it and my stomach is still Kräusening up something for me later. It is working real hard because there is a lot of noise in there. Just look at the positive side…another surprise! Did I just say that?!

Well, there you have it folkes.  How I jazzed up my life in just 2 easy steps!

Have a great day!  Oh by the way…What version of the bible do you prefer?
