May God have mercy on our souls.

What would you say if I gave you 11 reasons why the elections in 2010 will be the most important in the history of the United States ?

1. What if I had told you in October 2008, before the last presidential election, that before Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office, the federal government would be in control of both the mortgage and the banking industries? That 19 of America ‘s largest banks would be forced to undergo stress tests by the federal government which would determine if they were insufficiently capitalized, so they must be supervised by the government?

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America .”

 2. What if I had told you that within Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office the federal government would be the largest shareholder in the US Big-Three automakers: GM, and Chrysler? That the government would kick out the CEO’s of these companies and appoint hand-picked executives with zero experience in the auto industry and that executive compensation would be determined, not by a Board of Directors, but by the government?

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

3. What if I had told you that Barack Obama would appoint 21 Czars, without congressional approval, accountable only to him, not to the voters, who would have control over a wide range of US policy decisions. That there would be a Stimulus Accountability Czar, an Urban Czar, a Compensation Czar, an Iran Czar, an Auto Industry Czar, a Cyber Security Czar, an Energy Czar, a Bank Bailout Czar, and more than a dozen other government bureaucrats with unchecked regulatory powers over US domestic and foreign policy.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

4. What if I had told you that the federal deficit would be $915 billion in the first six months of the Obama presidency – with a projected annual deficit of $1.75 trillion – triple the $454.8 billion in 2008, for which the previous administration was highly criticized by Obama and his fellow Democrats. That congress would pass Obama’s $3.53 trillion federal budget for fiscal 2010… That the projected deficit over the next ten years would be greater than $10 trillion.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

 5. What if I had told you that the Obama Justice Department would order FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high-value detainees captured on the battlefield and held at US military detention facilities in Afghanistan . That Obama would order the closing of the Guantanamo detention facility with no plan for the disposition of the 200-plus individuals held there. That several of the suspected terrorists at Guantanamo would be sent to live in freedom in Bermuda at the expense of the US government. That our returning US veterans would be labeled terrorists and put on a watch list.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

6. What if I had told you that the federal government would seek powers to seize key companies whose failures could jeopardize the financial system. That a new regulatory agency would be proposed by Obama to control loans, credit cards, mortgage-backed securities, and other financial products offered to the public.

Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!”

7. What if I had told you that Obama would travel to the Middle East, bow before the Saudi king, and repeatedly apologize for America ‘s past actions. That he would travel to Latin America where he would warmly greet Venezuela ‘s strongman Hugo Chavez and sit passively in the audience while Nicaraguan Marxist thug Daniel Ortega charged America with terrorist aggression in Central America . Would you have said, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!” 8. Okay, now what if I were to tell you that Obama wants to dismantle conservative talk radio through the imposition of a new “Fairness Doctrine.” That he wants to curtail the First Amendment rights of those who may disagree with his policies via internet blogs, cable news networks, or advocacy ads. That most major network television and most newspapers will only sing his phrases like state-run media in communist countries?

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!!”

9. What if I were to tell you that the Obama Justice Department is doing everything it can to limit your Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. That the federal government wants to reinstate the so-called assault weapons ban which would prohibit the sale of any type of firearm that doesn’t require the shooter to pull the trigger every time a round is fired. That Obama’s Attorney General wants to eliminate the sale of virtually all handguns and ammunition, which most citizens choose for self-defense.

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !!!”

10. What if I were to tell you that the Obama plan is to eliminate states rights guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment and give the federal government sweeping new powers over policies currently under the province of local and state governments and voted on by the people. That Obama plans to control the schools, energy production, the environment, health care, and the wealth of every US citizen.

Would you say, “C’mon, that will never happen in America !”

11. What if I were to tell you that the president, the courts, and the federal government have ignored the US Constitution and have seized powers which the founders of our country fought to restrict. That our last presidential election may have been our last truly free election for some time to come.

I know, I know what you will say. “That will never happen in America !”

May God have mercy on our souls.

What traits do we get from God?

I’m sitting here thinking about Fathers day and how much I would like to be with my father today. Everything I am I owe to Mom and Dad. He and Mom live back home so we see each other about once a year.   Thank you Dad.

I was reading my friends blog (well, it is written as if her daughter is writing it, but I think she is a little young.  Check it out it is pretty funny.) and I starting thinking about all the traits we get from our fathers. Some things I get from Mom and some from Dad. I get my ability to laugh at all times from Dad. I get my voice and enjoyment of art from my Mom’s side. I get my positive outlook from Dad. I get a little from both sides. What traits do we get from God?

Well, if God is only good than we must only get our good traits from Him. Maybe the traits we get from Him are the fruits of the Spirit which we talked about before. As we grow up as a Christian we begin to look more and more like Jesus. Oh, I get it. As I develop into a spiritual athlete I reflect more and more of Christ’s image. But, why are there so many Christians walking around that don’t resemble Jesus? That is probably because I don’t resemble Jesus!  Can it be?

If we get fruit of the spirit (joy) from God …how do we get it? We know believers get it, but how?

When can we experience the joy of the Lord? When Lord….When?

More Jesus…Less Religion

My friend, Angie, said something in her post that really made me think. She reported that people say, they are “losing their religion” , as if in a desperate plea to hang on to it. I thought religion was man made? Shouldn’t we want to get rid of it or “lose our religion” and just follow Jesus? I have seen “religious” people hurt God’s children, all done in the name of Jesus. For example, the way my friends Jenn and Mary have been treated by “religious” people. I have seen, so called religious people, wearing robes, parade around on Sunday as some sort of holy movie stars yet on Monday act no different than the worst of us. It appears to me, as only a spiritual walker, that religion pushes people away from Jesus. It’s as if church people build walls around Jesus and make it difficult for the world to see his love.

How many of them leave their sterile environment go out into the world to harvest crops for Jesus?

Religion doesn’t look anything like the love of Christ or grace. It’s almost like religious people …..church people….. are in love with the religion and what that symbolizes to the world rather than following Jesus. If they were following Jesus, shouldn’t we see more joy? More of the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Oh,….I think I understand. As I’m writing this to you my thoughts are becoming clearer and I’m sitting here broken hearted. I just realized they are using their position, title, and place in the religious environment to fill a void in their life. Just like I did, but the only thing that can fill that void is following Jesus. Not following man made religious businesses. It makes me sad. I know what they are going through. I feel their pain. It is so hard to learn that lesson.

I will pray for them. We should all pray for the religious people we know to have more Jesus and less religion in their lives.

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion—several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. –Mark Twain

What has God showed you this week?

I finally called Mary and told her what I did last week-end. She just said, “huh”. Is that is good or bad? She turned in the bible where Peter denied Jesus. We talked about it. I still feel sore on the inside. I feel like I let Jake and her down. More importantly I let Jesus down. She explained there is nothing I can do to earn God’s love. I already have it. He loves me despite of myself. I tried to tell her I’ve done some pretty horrible things. “How could God forgive me?” “He already has”, she replied. Now you need to. I need to reflect on what she said.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what my friend TeriTeri said about the “scent of our home”. I thought about when I go home to visit my parents and the aroma of fresh bread and cookies that fills the air. How I take a deep breath and fill my heart with the love and affection from my Mom. It is pleasing and comforting to enter her kitchen and step back in time. I could not get that thought out of my mind so I decided, just for kicks, to look up the word “aroma” in the concordance of my bible.

There were many passages on our sacrifices being a “pleasing aroma to the Lord”. It caused me to reflect on my life. I don’t really make any sacrifices for Jesus. I don’t have any aroma that is pleasing to the Lord. I started to ask…”What can I sacrifice to make a pleasing offering to God? I came up with an idea. I can help with the church group that feeds the homeless. Once a month, a group of people get together and take food out along the rail road tracks in Phoenix to the homeless that might not make it into shelters. I am going to sign up and help out.

Have a great rest of the week.

What can you do to make your life a “pleasing aroma to the Lord?”

Are you sure you can trust the Bible?

This was the question I asked Mary as she looked at my bible. She liked it….said it was a good choice not to get the type with the commentary on the pages. Then I would get in the habit of getting my information from the commentary instead of God’s word. I rephrased my question…

“How can you be sure what we have today is what was written down originally?”

Looking back at the bible she looked at the concordance in the back. She showed me how to use it. Thinking she did not hear me…

I asked “How do we know what was written down is true?”
Mary did not seem the least bit flustered by my questions. In fact she seemed to enjoy them. She next turned to the index….”yes, yes I know how to use the index.” Getting a little impatient. She reassured me that this page will become the most worn page in the book. “It’s ok to use this page. Everyone does when they look up various books. Don’t let them fool you.

She then asked. …”Did you ever read the Iliad?” “Yes of course, in college.” I replied. Then she asked “ How about Gallic Wars, by Julius Caesar? Do you know who Herodotus was?” “Slow down. Let me think about it”, I said. “I remember learning about this. Herodotus is like the head honcho of history….The man”.

She then asked “Why do you believe his work?” “Well, Duh. He systematically collected materials and we know their work is accurate because it is cross-checked to other manuscripts to verify their accuracy!” Feeling very confident of my education. Thinking money well spent.

Mary said, “Very good”. In her calm quiet voice she reports there are 8 copies of the historical works of Herodotus and 10 copies of Julius Caesar. She also goes on to say there are 24,633 copies of the New Testament alone! “Shut up” “For real, Mary?” “For real, Sam.” More surviving early manuscripts means more cross-checks for accuracy.

“But, how accurate is the actual account?” Feeling a little smug – thinking I stumped her.

“Good question” (Folks that only means she was anticipating the question) “Would it be reasonable to assume the closer to the actual account the book was written the more accurate it would be?” Slowly I respond “Y..e..s”. I feel a set-up. Here it comes, “Did you know that the Iliad was written some 500 years and Herodotus 1300 years after the events?” Once again I respond cautiously, “N..o”. She goes on, “But some biblical books were written within 25-30 years of the actual events and show eye witness confirmation.” I am shocked. “WOW”.
“In fact”, she replies, “the bible is made up of 66 books written by at least 40 authors, from different cultures and different backgrounds. Yet the bible is consistent throughout on thousands of highly controversial issues.” “Why do you think that is Sam?” “Why? indeed, Mary” , throwing the question back at her. “Because it had just one author Sam….God” “The Holy Spirit not only directed the lives of the writers and organizers of the bible, but the very words themselves”. “The bible is the tool God uses to communicate to his children. “ She adds, “It is the number one way He speaks to me today.”

I was a little overwhelmed with the conversation. I don’t think I did her explanation justice, but you get the jist. I can read the bible and know that it is God speaking to me. I can trust what it says. It has stood up to the evidence.

She asked me to start reading just 7 minutes a day. Since I am going to try this God’s way…..I told her I would do it. I need to find out what that “way” is. Seven minutes….who can’t fit that in? I am to report back next week- what I read and what God showed me. Oh yeah, she also told me it was ok not to understand everything I was reading. Don’t get hung up on it. Just keep going.

Let me know if you try it and what God has showed you? I will keep you posted.

And remember, Run The Race for Jesus!

Run with Style!

Ok, so church wasn’t so bad. A little cool temperate wise and we had to walk quite a ways to get in but, they did have a coffee shop in the lobby. It was decent coffee. Not the cheap brown stuff that tastes like formaldehyde. He talked a little long today. I don’t think people should have to sit and listen longer than an hour. Who cares about the prayers and all the music? Although, I must say, I enjoyed the music. It was better than listening to him talk.

Jake made me a bet that I couldn’t walk in and not shake hands with someone. I took on the bet. My city survival skills came back to me just like riding a bike. Brisk walk, no eye contact, purse under my arm, hands in pockets, and no smile… driven. I won the bet! Yes, girls….Jake bought the coffee.

I guess the Pastor wasn’t done talking about “Running the Race” because that was the topic again. This time about getting into shape. Jake thinks we need Bibles. I said “He could get one but, not ME”. I find everything I need on the internet. I had a Bible as a child and I didn’t understand it. Anyway, I believe there’s a God so why read about him? No, that’s for the Jesus freaks. Not me. I don’t need anymore Jesus. I just need a decent job. I need to move back to the city where my friends are… people who understand me. I want my old life back. Jake is going to buy a bible tonight after work. Whatever. He’ll see that it’s not the magic pill the Pastor thinks. I am NOT going to read it or carry it. Not me.

Annie, in the spirit of getting along, I looked up some information on treadmills so I could get into shape. Like the pastor talked about. Jenny, Mary’s life partner, sent me this clip. To help out! What a crack up. You have to check this out. Pretend this is me. Getting ready to “run the race”. Every time I look at that I bust up …roll on the floor. I am pretty sure this is not what the pastor was talking about but, I’m game to try. Until next time……If you are going to Run the Race friends at least run with style!
