Does anyone read anymore?

I have spent the last couple of days reading Health care bill H.R. 3200. We have all heard talk on the radio and the newspaper about the bill but, who has read it for themselves? I asked Jake, ”Who do we believe?”

After reading it, I soon realized not all of the reporters are reading it either. I have talked to, who I consider intelligent people, who are oblivious to what’s on the bill and state “don’t worry”. After reading the bill (up to page 300) I can say I am worried. I pulled the congressional budget report of the impact the bill will have on the deficit…..I am now very worried. Why aren’t people speaking up?

People say they want health care for all…….it already exists. I see people everyday who have medical bills on their credit reports that are not paid. They still get the health care, they just don’t pay the bill. It’s a choice they make whether they want the insurance or not. The bill proposes a fabulous solution. On page 59, it says the government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer. WHAT?
I suggest everyone go to the Government website and read for yourselves.

Enjoy!

I just want to celebrate….

I just want to celebrate…. Steps to Pure Joy continued

Step 6: Celebrate where you are going…Heaven. Just imagine-Jesus is going to plan a place for us! “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:1-3 NASB). Just thinking about the place that Jesus is going to decorate for me…build for me….one that’s move in ready, makes me want to bust with joy! I am so excited I can hardly wait to see it. I have already requested a bubble gum machine!

It is a place where God dwells among his people. “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” And He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. “He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son” (Rev 21:3-7 NASB). No more pain, no more hurt hearts, no more betrayal……

Later, the bible describes “the streets of the city will be pure gold, like transparent glass” (Rev 21:21 NASB). Just image it. How cool is that. I can hardly wait to slide on the gold floors in my socks and have God laugh with me. I could practice sliding up to him on my knees (like in the movie). I don’t think I will be able to walk anyway. I will be in awe of His presence. Think about God, my father, my Lord and master wiping the tears from my eyes. I am so excited I could just scream. I had to stop to run around the house and scream!
Have you noticed a common theme in the last few ideas? Celebrate the Lord. Worship Him for who He is and what He does. God inhabits the praise of his children. “But you are holy, O You Who dwell in (the holy place where) the praises of Israel (are offered)” (Ps 22:3 Amp). He loves it when we show our love for Him. When we tell Him we love Him and how great we think He is. Just noticing the blessings He gives you everyday and thanking Him for them puts a smile on his face. His love flows back to you through the Holy Spirit in the most wonderful joy you will ever experience.

Question to ponder: Do you celebrate the Lord during the week or only on the week-end?

P.S. Thank you again Mary for all your help.

How clean are we really?

A friend posted something on her blog that has made me start to think…….

She talks this week about Jesus, a toaster, and a magic eraser. Check it out…FreetoDance  What is the magic eraser Jesus is using in your life? I’m thinking when he uses it …it has to hurt. I hate pain. Does he know that about me?

She found me awhile ago and I have been watching her blog ever since. What caught my attention is she reveals she is a domestic violence survivor. It has been something I have been thinking a lot about since I met Amy. I have emailed “freetodance” and discussed abuse. What does it look like? How does it happen? She has been a big help.

You and I have talked about my friend Amy and some think she may be abused. I don’t see how because her husband is a Christian. He prays and everything. He has even started volunteering at the church. What I do know is that I need to gather more information before I talk to her.

But, here is what I don’t understand… How could someone live through something like that and still love God? How could you think there even was a God?

Mission Impossible…?

Picture this…

Me in a navy blue high bodice evening gown. I am dancing at a ball with a handsome gentleman. I slip away and run up the stairs to a dark office. With my flashlight that also doubles as a hair piece I search for the treasure. I hear something….voices and steps coming closer. I frantically search, and finally I find the diamond and run out the patio door and to the next room. Just in time. I quietly exit the suite and take the stairs up to the roof being chased by security. Once on the roof I search for an escape but discover there is no place to run.

Security thinks they have cornered me but, I run to the edge of the building, un-Velcro my pleated skirt to reveal a tight fitting black jumpsuit. I pull loose straps of a harness over my shoulders and jump over the edge of the sky scrapper. My black parachute opens and I gently swish between buildings and windows unnoticed by residents of the city. I land in the park. I nonchalantly take the parachute off, stuff it in the dumpster, and walk away seen only by a bag lady rummaging through the trash. She asks holding up the chute, “Is it worth anything?” I respond, “Only if you’re in a tight spot.” Next, I hale a cab, one pulls over and the driver is Syliva who asks, “Did you get the jewels?” I pull it out of my jumpsuit and it glistens in the lights of the city at midnight. I respond, “I could only find “Joy” but, the others must be there. We will try another night to find Hope and Peace.”

Mission impossible music playing in the background…..

Ten Steps to pure joy. Continued.

Step Two.  Pray. If you are a Christian and are missing the joy of the Lord in your life go to God who is the source of joy. “l go to the altar of God, to God — the source of all my joy” (Ps 43:4 NLT).  Pray as David prayed in the Psalms “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul” (Ps 86:3-4 NIV).  Ask God to fill you with His joy to show you how to have joy…to teach you.  Ask him, “Lord, help me to get to know You better.  Help me to believe You are the source of my joy and that only You can fill my soul with the inexpressible joy I yearn for”.  Then believe that God will answer your prayer.  Watch as he fills your life with the joy.  David knew the joy from the Lord was far greater than that of the world.  “You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and wine” (Ps 4:7 NLT).  He turned to God for his joy.  He asked him for it in his time of trouble.  In your time of trouble turn to God.

Step Three. Celebrate the Lord.   Start with celebrating the gift of salvation.  Don’t just think about these things but celebrate them…rejoice in God.  God takes pleasure in His children and wants them to rejoice in Him. God wants us to be joyful. To sing for joy in His honor. I love Psalms 98…

Sing to the LORD a new song,

for he has done marvelous things;

his right hand and his holy arm

have worked salvation for him.

2 The LORD has made his salvation known

and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love

and his faithfulness to the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen

the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with music;

5 make music to the LORD with the harp,

with the harp and the sound of singing,

6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn —

shout for joy before the LORD, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it.

8 Let the rivers clap their hands,

let the mountains sing together for joy;

9 let them sing before the LORD,

for he comes to judge the earth.

He will judge the world in righteousness

and the peoples with equity. NIV

Pure joy comes from the celebration knowing who our Lord is and all he has done for us.  It comes from knowing that your salvation and eternal life has been won by Jesus; knowing that he is a faithful loving Lord.

He is the creator of the universe and He has good plans for us.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jer 29:11NLT).  Knowing that just makes me want to jump up and down for joy.  Think about it, God takes pleasure in us and wants us to be joyful.  “For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation. Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds” (Psalms 149:4-5 NIV). They sing for joy on their beds!  I can just picture the saints jumping up and down for joy to the Lord on their beds and God smiling at their joy.  Actually He is probably doing a belly laugh with them.

We should be joyful and celebrate our Lord and all he has done for us….but we can’t know who He is and all He has done for us until we study the bible and pray to get to know Him.  Ask and the door will open.   He is a good patient father.  Celebrate that He is your father and that you can know Him and experience His love.  He wants to share it with you.

P.S. Can’t take credit for all of this material.  Mary helped a ton.  Love ya Mary.

Running on God’s fuel. Is is cheaper?

Copy (2) of IMG_1436

Since the fall of man, humans have been searching for joy in all the pleasures the serpent provides.  In Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis(love the book), he explains that God created us to run on the fuel that He provides.  We were designed to run on Him.  God can’t give us joy apart of him.  People have tried.  They think they know more about what gives joy than the creator of the universe.  The one who created them.  Wacked isn’t it!

Satan knows humans are searching for pure joy.  He also knows only God has the ability to give us pure joy.  The kind of joy that leaves you full, not empty and wanting more.  Satan knows pure joy, from the Lord, is not found in people, money, stuff, drugs or alcohol.  The joy found in the world does not create true happiness; it is only a temporary fix.  It leaves less of you and a craving for more joy.  The joy found in the world does not last, it is temporary. The more of “it” a person has (whatever “it” is, money, drugs, alcohol…etc.) the less of them there is and they become  less of the person Gods wants them to be.  They become more like the world.  So how do I get the joy of the Lord and when do I experience it?

Step One:  Believe God created you and loves you.  Believe Jesus came to earth to die on the cross for your sins; whatever they might be.  Believe God wants to forgive you and wants you to have pure joy and that only he has the ability to give it to you.  Receive Jesus into your life.  Receive His forgiveness and the gift of His Spirit into your life.  “And all who believe in God’s Son have eternal life.” (John 3:36 NLT)  Bow your head and whisper this prayer:

“ Dear God, I am sorry for my sins.  I believe your son, Jesus, died on the cross for my sins, so I might be forgiven.  I want to live the rest of my life your way.  Please come into my life to guide and direct me.”

If you have prayed this pray for the first time, Congratulations!   I encourage you to get into a bible based church, read the bible and pray everyday, and find other Christians and spend time with them on a regular basis.  Find a Mary.

God made us with the desire to be joyful and to look to him for the joy.  You have to believe that the pure joy you are looking for comes from him. “Peter talks about Jesus, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” (1 Peter 1:8 NIV).  The pure joy people are looking for comes from Him….believing in Him.  The first step is to believe in Jesus and to surrender your life to Him.  Allow His will to be done not your will.  Trust the plans He has for you are good.  Ask Him to guide you and lead you in all decisions.

I’m going to tell Syliva about this joy.

 Additional steps to follow.

More Jesus…Less Religion

My friend, Angie, said something in her post that really made me think. She reported that people say, they are “losing their religion” , as if in a desperate plea to hang on to it. I thought religion was man made? Shouldn’t we want to get rid of it or “lose our religion” and just follow Jesus? I have seen “religious” people hurt God’s children, all done in the name of Jesus. For example, the way my friends Jenn and Mary have been treated by “religious” people. I have seen, so called religious people, wearing robes, parade around on Sunday as some sort of holy movie stars yet on Monday act no different than the worst of us. It appears to me, as only a spiritual walker, that religion pushes people away from Jesus. It’s as if church people build walls around Jesus and make it difficult for the world to see his love.

How many of them leave their sterile environment go out into the world to harvest crops for Jesus?

Religion doesn’t look anything like the love of Christ or grace. It’s almost like religious people …..church people….. are in love with the religion and what that symbolizes to the world rather than following Jesus. If they were following Jesus, shouldn’t we see more joy? More of the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Oh,….I think I understand. As I’m writing this to you my thoughts are becoming clearer and I’m sitting here broken hearted. I just realized they are using their position, title, and place in the religious environment to fill a void in their life. Just like I did, but the only thing that can fill that void is following Jesus. Not following man made religious businesses. It makes me sad. I know what they are going through. I feel their pain. It is so hard to learn that lesson.

I will pray for them. We should all pray for the religious people we know to have more Jesus and less religion in their lives.

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion—several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. –Mark Twain

What has God showed you this week?

You Don’t Have To Be Rich to Feed the World

Amy, Richard, Jake and I went out on Saturday to feed people along the rail road tracks in downtown Phoenix. It was 105 degrees and the heat just lingered over the hot pavement. Some people we fed were beaten, raped, all outcasts for one reason or another.

I enjoyed talking to the homeless ladies, but my heart was particularly drawn to one lady about my age, although, she looked much older. Her name was Roberta. She appeared to be hooked on something. She was very thin and sores all over her. I went home and brought her some clean clothes to wear. She was beaten by her husband and taken in by this man …we will call him…Judas. He also has treated her worse than most farm animals and is she is now sleeping along the tracks because it is safer than in the shelter. I asked her what it was like out there at night? She said, sometimes it is very lonely and desperate. She has days she goes without food. She had a jar of peanut butter and bread, but that was stolen. I fumbled for the right words and told her Jesus loved her.

There was another older lady who appeared to be really hungry. She could not get enough food. She even licked the little butter and jelly container. She said, “she didn’t know when she would eat again.” It reminded me of Chere’s post about desperate people. The stench of urine around her was unbearable and many people had to step back to get cleaner air.   Amy and I found some clothes for her to wear and a place for her to change. We took her old clothes to throw them away. Just as I was putting them in the trash maggots fell out of the legs.

I ask myself…How can this be? How can people live out here with nothing and we sit in our cozy homes and do nothing?

All in all, Jake and I really enjoyed spending the day with Amy and Richard….aka Rich..ard. He is very nice. I know some of you have warned me that he might beat Amy, but I don’t see that at all. He appears to be a very Godly man. What do I know?

Jake and I talked about the day when we got home. We made a decision to save money each week to buy food for the people out on the streets. We can’t give them money because they might buy drugs with it. We can show them God’s love by taking food and clothes out to them.

What decisions will you make this week to change how you live so your life will reflect Jesus?

Joy Continued

Some of you might not know, but I have been on this search for Joy. What is the Joy of the Lord? How do you describe it to others?

Mary brought two bible dictionaries today for me to look up joy. They were much more helpful. She is such a jem. This is what we looked up today…

The New Unger’s Bible Dictionary said: “Joy is a delight of the mind arising from the consideration of a present or assured possession of a future good. When moderate- it is called gladness; raised suddenly to the highest degree- it is exultation”.  Sounds nice doesn’t it…”A delight of the mind”. It also claims it is usually in some form of the Hebrew word “gil, which means to leap or spin around with pleasure”.

Mary gave me this verse to meditate on… “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corth. 2:9). Think about it …to leap or spin around in our mind thinking about the assured possession of heaven and all God has in store for us. I get goose bumps just sitting here writing about it.

Next, we looked joy up in the Student Bible Dictionary: “Gladness, rejoicing. An evidence of a Holy Spirit-filled life”. They might be on to something. Joy is the evidence of a Holy Spirit-filled life. The bible says “when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law” (Gal 5:22 NLT). “At that time, Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit…” (Luke 10:21 NIV). Mary knows all the verses!

The world is searching for joy but the true pure joy only comes from God through the Holy Spirit filled life. People who aren’t believers may search for it, want it, and need it, but they will only have the imitation joy provided by the world. The joy of the godless lasts but a moment (Job 20:5 NIV).  So true so true.

Now that’s something I can joyfully share when I harvest my crop.

What did I learn?  I know that pure joy comes from God through the Holy Spirit.  I learned that it is “a delight of the mind” stemming from meditating or thinking about the assured future God has in store for us.  It is not found in the false promises of the world, but in assured promises of our Lord.   I know that joy is evidence of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.  As one matures in their walk, the fruit of the Spirit should be more evident and therefore they should have more peace and more joy resting in the promises of the Lord.

Question to ponder:  Who has the pure joy from the Holy Spirit available to them?

Where’s the harvest?

Reading update…John Chapter 4
Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman at the well. It appears he already knows about her past and present living arrangements. She has had 5 “husbands.” The one she is living with now is not her husband. He doesn’t seem phased or surprised by her life style. He knows all about her past and still cares about her.

That means, even though my past is dark he must still care about me. He already knows my past. I don’t need to tell him. WOW. All those voices in my head telling me, “How could he care about you after some of the things you have done?” or “Once he finds out who you really are you won’t be wanted.” It’s just voices of my doubt. Not Jesus. He already knows. Cool beans.

Harvest…
The disciples come back after Jesus talks to the woman. He tells them the harvest is ripe. He tells them to open your eyes and look at the fields. They are ripe for harvest.

Looking for the harvest…
I decided to ride my bike to the light rail and take a tour of the city. I wanted to discover where the harvest is ripe.

llightrail

I rode the entire loop stopping in downtown Phoenix to walk around. I didn’t see the harvest –  just lots of people. I couldn’t tell if anyone was ready. How do you tell? How do you harvest the crop?

I could not see where the harvest was ripe but, maybe that was because it was ripe all around me. I was in the middle of the field, kind of like being on a ship in the middle of the ocean. You don’t see land because all you see is water. Oh, I get it. The field where God has planted me is Phoenix and the harvest is ripe all around me.

But how do I harvest the crop? Any ideas?
